" I desire that there be a Feast of Mercy. I want this image, which you will paint with a brush, to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter; that Sunday is to be the Feast of Mercy." (49) "My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the fount of My Mercy." (699) Your assignment and duty here on earth is to beg for mercy for the whole world. No soul will be justified until it turns with confidence to My mercy, and this is why the first Sunday after Easter is to be the Feast of Mercy. On that day, priests are to tell everyone about My great and unfathomable mercy. I am making you the administrator of My mercy. Tell the confessor that the Image is to be on view in the church and not within the enclosure in that convent. By means of this Image I shall be granting many graces to souls; so let every soul have access to it." (570)

Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, proclaimed it a feast for the entire Church in 2001. If we listen carefully to the message that Jesus told Faustina, we will see that this feast is of great importance to mankind. He tells us we are living in a period where there is a last chance for Mercy, and that after this will come the Day of Justice. By instituting this Feastday, and canonizing the instrument of this message, Sister Faustina, the Church has ratified this message. This is astounding in its gravity and importance. How do we get ready for such a thing? Are we to become frightened? Of course not! Jesus tells us He is Mercy itself. He is Love! He tells us we are to get ready by using the sacraments He gave us, Confession and Communion, to cleanse our souls continuously. He tells us to have confidence in His Mercy, no matter how badly we have led our lives. He tells us to pray the Chaplet, to meditate on His Passion, and to practice Mercy to our fellow man. And He gives us this day, Divine Mercy Sunday, in which, if we prepare properly, we will receive complete remission of our sins and the punishment due them. (see 699 to the left) God is offering us the olive branch of peace with the Feast of Mercy. If we want peace, we must turn to His Mercy, and away from all that is not God. |
